PROVOCATION to different market places
As provocation about the process of selling and buying, the students had a shopping day to different market places. They brought only Rp. 20.000 to buy anything that they wanted. It was challenging and exciting moments for students since some of them never been going to traditional market. The students in one class are divided into 3 groups which are food stall, Food mart, and Pasar Pondok Labu. After shopping, the students reflected what they have bought using matrix of needs and wants.
The students not only shopped but also observed the facilities, systems and availability of goods and services in different market places.

Making a diamond rank about students' needs and wants
After shopping, the students were able to identify the goods that they bought based on its urgency or importance. Then, they had to list 10 goods or services that can make them happy and enjoy life. Based on the list that they made, they classified into a diamond rank to know about what they really needed or just wanted. The result was surprising since some students were really engaged to this activity. They chose family, sholat equipment and education as their basic needs. Awesome!
Role play of trading
To deepen students understanding of different criteria or process regarding of product and services, the students played role as buyer and seller. It was engaging learning experiences since they used artificial money as their cash payment. Then, they had to learn that becoming seller was not easy since they had to calculate all of the goods and prepared for the changes.
To have further understanding about supply and demand, the students started to interview some staff who provided school supply like Librarian and Canteen staff.
Next, the students had a guest speaker who explained about the process of production, distribution and consumption. Then, the students got an understanding that price will be affected by supply and demand as below:
If supply is more than demand will make the price lower.
If supply is less than demand will make the price higher.
The students also did a survey to Al Jabr community about what types of products and services that students wanted to have. So they came to different class and asked different staff and teachers. Then, each group made a chart/graph to organize their data. It showed that most students and staff would like to have stationary as the product and massages as the service.

Preparing the business plan for Entrepreneurship Day
Entrepreneurship Day |
Starting a business will need a lot of preparation. After knowing about the school demand, then the students worked in pairs to decide about what kinds of product or service that they would like to sell.
Once they decided the product/service then they should think of the finance which started from where they got the money from, how much materials they needed, who they would sell the product to and how they promoted the products. They were introduced to total cost, cost per unit and also profit/loss. It was challenging process because they have to predict about the price and calculate all materials needed to decide the sale price. They also continued to make the poster to advertise their products and services. |
